Better Biomes Mod for Minecraft 1.6.4/1.6.2/1.5.2

Better Biomes Mod is a forge mod that adds a new world type, more biomes, and configuration options for vanilla biomes. The Better Biomes world type contains all the new biomes – they do not generate in the standard Overworld. Each one can be turned off in the config.

Mod Features

  • Alpine
Alpine biomes contain tall, snowy mountains. They have two sub-biomes. The Alpine Edge sub-biome, which surrounds Alpine biomes, contains spruce trees and ferns. The Glacier sub-biome, which generates occasionally inside Alpine biomes, is made up of a large sheet of ice, coating a mountain side.
  • Fir Forest
The fir forest is filled with various types of fir trees. The small fir tree can grow up to 12 blocks high while the larger fir tree can be up to 32 blocks high.
  • Mangroves
Clumps of trees spawn in the mainly submerged mangroves biome. Unlike swamps, mangroves are green, with no mushrooms, giving them a more pleasant feel. Witches’ huts will still spawn however.
  • Prairie
The prairie is a simple, large expanse of yellow/gold grass. No trees spawn in this biome.
  • Rainforest
Rainforests contain jungle trees, but don’t have that annoying undergrowth which makes travelling through jungles so arduous. Jungle temples can be found in Rainforests and the Rainforest Valley sub-biome.
  • Rocky Hills
The rocky hills biome is a desolate biome. Its surface is made up of stone and cobblestone. Emeralds generate in this biome.
  • Sandstone Canyon
The sandstone canyon biome is filled with deep gorges, winding their way through the ground. Birch trees, tall grass and shrubs generate on small patches of dirt.
  • Savannah
The savannah is a dry, flat biome containing the occasional Acacia tree. Acacia trees have two bent branches supporting their canopy
  • Shrublands
Shrublands are filled with the small shrubs that usually generate in jungles. Villages will generate in the Shrublands biome.
  • Steppe
The steppe is a damp grassland biome. Mobs spawn frequently, but sugar cane, tall grass and trees do not appear in the biome.
  • Tundra
The Tundra is a snow-covered biome filled with flowers and low undergrowth. Ice Sheets can be found throughout this biome, 4 metres thick and extending out across the Tundra
  • Volcanic Desert
The Volcanic Deserts are dotted with pits of lava. Occasionally you can find Volcano and Oasis sub-biomes, adding some variety to the normally monotonous deserts. Villages and pyramids still generate.
  • Wastelands
Wastelands are filled with gravel and dirt. Dead trees can be found in wastelands, the only remains of a once lush area. Villages can be found in Wastelands.

Better Biomes

Fantasy Biomes

  • Forest of the Yggdrasils
The Forest of the Yggdrasils (Yggdrasil means World Tree) is much like default forests, however huge birch trees up to 48 blocks high will generate occasionally, towering above the surrounding area. They are surrounded by the Forest Edge sub-biome, which has fewer trees and no Yggdrasils.
